Welcome everyone to the first Harmony Ranch newsletter of 2012!
What a wonderful year we have coming to us but first I want to catch you up on everything that has been going on at Harmony! As usual at the end of this newsletter I will share some tips and info that I hope you will find helpful!
New To The Ranch
Our newest boarders are Sandy and Dennis who came to us in 2011 with their special horses Benson and Morgan—welcome guys, thanks for joining us! And at the same time let me say KUDOS to both of these dedicated horse owners and riders—Sandy and Dennis have been working really hard on their riding and horsemanship skills and it shows! Way to go on loping your horses in beautiful collected frames!
Wasn't That A Party!
The annual Holiday Party on December 29 was so much fun! And we had our special guest Allison join us this year so there was lots of hugs and catching up to do (more on Allison a little later on in our next newsletter!)
More Improvements at Harmony
Lots of improvements and renovations have been made to Harmony. As most of you know already the barns were all painted, new fencing added and all of it painted. Inside the barn we added lots of things to make the horses and their owners enjoy the Harmony experience even more!
- all the stalls are now double matted; can you say “sleeping on a cloud of comfort” for all the horses!
- every boarder now has the convenience of a stall side tack cupboard PLUS a large tack closet with bridle hooks and 2 saddle racks in each plus a separate area to hang your coolers and blankets
- new and uplevelled washroom facilities
- new footing in the indoor arena
- improved lighting in the indoor arena
- And as always there are snacks and hot drinks in the clubroom for everyone to enjoy!
Big thanks go to Donat for all his hard work and innovative ideas! Couldn't have done it without you Donat! You are the “handiest” of handy men!
In the lessons everyone continues to enjoy and improve their rides. Karen is working really hard with new school horse Ally and it shows! This little mare is helping Karen uplevel her riding for sure! Welcome new and returning students Carol, Sarah, John, Vitaly, Emma and Marg!
Many thanks to Karen for bringing us soup to enjoy every Sunday after the lessons! Yum, she is the soup-yoda! It`s really nice for everyone to have a sit down and discuss the highlights of their rides and share ideas, encouragement and a big dose of laughter!
There has been quite a bit of interest from some of you in the new popularity of Western Dressage and there will be more involvement in that in 2012. Since the Harmony riders have always worked with the classic principles of self carriage, light hands and correctness (and in the past we have worked on our own modified Dressage patterns) the Western Dressage patterns will be a natural addition for us in the lesson program. Plans are underway to get some patterns up on youtube and facebook of you guys!
Newest Member of the Herd
At the end of last summer I decided to formally adopt Skater from the Longrun program and ensure that he would never leave Harmony and have a forever home with us. This was an expensive decision and I thank all of you for your kind support in helping with his extra care requirements (nurse Diane, Lisa, Dina and Daniella) and for your generosity in helping with him financially. I could not do it without your support so thank you from the bottom of my heart and Skater`s (big) heart!
My Personal Thanks To You
On a personal note I also want to express my appreciation for all of your support and kindness. 2011 was difficult at times with both of my parents passing away in the same year. I am really blessed to have such a great bunch of clients and friends. You all helped out when I needed you and you made it a joy to go out to the barn and see all of you every day... so thank you.
Here's to 2012 and a wonderful year for everyone and all the horses!
Is My Horse Warm Enough?
My tip for this newsletter is on blanketing horses in the winter. I often get asked if it's wise “to blanket or not to blanket”? Everyone wants to do what is best for their horses and my advice is based on years of personal experience as well as the latest research and veterinary recommendations. You might be surprised at some of the information that the latest research is coming up with! Did you know that researchers can use the latest in heat and temperature sensing technology to confirm that the horses have over 15 different built in ways to change their own “natural thermal blankets”? Are we blanketing for us or for our horses best health? Get the whole story here.
