Horse Riding Lesson Program For the Adult Novice

You rode through the Beginner Horse Riding Lesson Program and have become a Novice rider. Congratulations!

Now you're hooked and really eager to understand these complex animals and how you can get them to do the stuff you want them to do!

The novice level is where we start going a bit deeper into the mechanics and the how and why why why.

The Big Five

Here are the 5 most important things the Harmony Ranch Adult Novice Horse Riding Lesson Program will teach you:

  1. The difference between helping or hindering your horse's performance with your position
  2. How your focus can impact your body language and what you are “saying” or “not saying” to your horse
  3. The importance of leg cues for full body control
  4. The opening and direct and indirect rein effects and how they effect your horse's body
  5. Developing independent seat and hands
Our novice adult riders can safely and correctly prepare their horses by themselves about 30 min before class start time. These riding lessons are one hour in length. Novice riding lessons can take place indoors or outside in our outdoor pen and we often cool the horses out after the lesson by taking a walk around the track through the trees; a great way to unwind and enjoy the gorgeous property.

Our novice riders learn about the different rein effects; direct, opening, indirect and how they effect the horse and how to apply them properly.

Students learn how to effectively use their weight to control the horses direction and the basics of body control - the horse's and yours!

We teach more steering exercises at the walk and jog and riders learn about posting diagonals at the rising trot.

The lope is introduced and riders continue to develop independent seat and hands. Riders also learn about the different gaits and how the rider aids effect the horse.

Here's What You'll Learn

What will I learn in the Adult Novice Horse Riding Lesson Program that will prepare me to move to the next level of instruction?

  1. Establish and maintain a CORRECT position at the walk, jog and posting trot
  2. Learn how to cue for the lope and how to maintain a SAFE position at the lope
  3. Understanding how the mechanics of the different rein effects enhance your safety and control and help put the fun in your rides
  4. Reinforce the solid foundation introduced in previous lessons
